Public Transportation

Living in a world that we do today, many of us rely on public transportation (including myself). There are times when public transportation can be considered a good thing. Not only do we save money getting to places, we’re doing some good for the environment, or so they say?

There are times however where I can safely say that I really hate public transportation system, or rather how it functions. As you can already tell, this post is more of a rant, but that’s the freedom of speech right?

What frustrates me the most is how fares increase for these transportation systems, but to only find out that it’s services have gotten even more crappier? Wouldn’t you expect the services to get better especially if people are paying more to use the service? I would think so, ever since the fare has increased, I’m waiting a lot longer to get somewhere as opposed to before when the fare was lower. That makes no sense!

Now I know what your thinking, why hate on the public transportation? Well I don’t. When you are expected to pay more for something, you should expect to get something at least a little better back especially since it’s a service for the public. Possibly more frequent bus service, not less?

So what’s the point of this post? If you believe that your public system isn’t doing their job, or even maybe not doing it right, complain, rant, bitch if you have to! Because if no one does, then change cannot happen. One person can make a difference, but the more you have who bitch, the better! So go out and make that difference, complain.

Is Qtrax a flop?

Released today, the company “Qtrax” released their much anticipated application out as beta. There has been much talk about this program mainly because it offers it’s users “free and legal” music downloads. It also claims to have support from major labels. As of today, Warner Music Group Corp. actually released a press release claiming that it in fact does not support its company in its efforts. The deals with the other four major labels are still in the works, but their actually status’ have not been published. Come on, after what the RIAA has been doing, is it really possible for something like this to exist? To see what the hype is all about, Pikism.com took the initiative to give the program a test drive!

For one, this program is completely, if not identical to an application called ‘Songbird.’ I mean yes it says Powered by Songbird on the bottom, but it’s just way too identical.

To top things off, right when starting the application, the main page has trouble loading (music.qtrax.com)? I would think that I could expect to at least see the main page loading without timing out. After pressing Try Again a few times, the page partially loads and I can see from the top that there are currently 5506 Online Users and 9,695,469 Qtrax tracks?

Well after finally loading, I am greeted with the startup page (finally!). Much to my surprise, the page contains artists that are mainstream in the music industry. I click on Chris Brown, but oh wait, I’m going to have to wait another 5 minutes for the page to load, and later find out that it’s going to timeout again. Argh!

Well, unfortunately we’ve come to the conclusion of this blog post and that is, Qtrax really doesn’t live up to what it says. Based on what other websites are saying as well, these “free and legal” downloads are still coming soon. So much for the hype! We’ll keep you all posted.

UPDATE @ 12:27 pm (EST): We took a test drive later on in the day, much to our surprise, the page still doesn’t load. But wait! The artist page doesn’t even exist anymore, a 404 error. Try going to the front page, you’ll be greeted with an Oracle page now.

Grand Theft Auto

So I’ve been busying myself with this game called Grand Theft Auto.

I’m not sure if you have played it or not, but I believe that this is one of the coolest games ever created!

In GTA, you can walk around pointlessly in the city and shoot up random strangers or gang members. You can drive vehicles such as sports cars, trucks, and even mini-vans. There are many missions that you are supposed to complete, and after each completed task, you get a sum of money that you can use to purchase weapons or whatever suits your need.

There have been many complaints about the amount of violence in GTA. I personally think that the game is violent but in reality, a high percent of the gamers can understand that this is a GAME and not real life. But this game does give the upcoming generation a false sense of being in the “hood” or blowing up cars is what gives them the “good life”.

I have faith that most GTA gamers understand that this is a form and source of entertainment, and is not meant to be a guideline of life.

But going back to the features and such, GTA is a marvel of gaming genius. A combination of rolling around in vehicles and the freedom to roam all over the city brings hours of fun because of the unlimited possibilities.

All in all, the Grand Theft Auto series has brought the world of gaming to a whole new level. The amazing thought out plot lines and the attention to details really make the difference in the eyes of a gamer.

In the future, I will write more about GTA because the series is far from over. This blog was purely an introduction to what I have to say.

If you ever have the chance, play Grand Theft Auto, it is truly worth playing. GTA blog part 2, coming soon… =)
