procrastinate – “to put off till another day or time; defer; delay.” – Dictionary.com
Whether you believe it or not, we all procrastinate in some way or another. We tell ourselves that we’ll get around to doing something, and keep going on saying this to ourselves, until we save it for last minute and finally get the job done. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m totally like this with many things whether it be school, buying things and what not. In any case, procrastination hasn’t been all too much of a problem.. well except for lack of sleep when it comes to doing everything last minute, but at least it’s getting done right?
I was told once that sometimes one works best under stress, and to be honest this works sometimes, but at times it really doesn’t and makes things really hard. The reality is that if you live a life of procrastination, you aren’t going to get far.
According to an article from Psychology Toady(which I happen to read!) about 70% of college students consider themselves procrastinators. I would fit in this category, no questions asked. The article also goes on to say that procrastinators tend to underestimate the time that they realistically have. My advice? Set goals for yourself ahead of time, plan your day, your schedule, stay focused and goal-oriented as opposed to have ideas everywhere. Get something accomplished, as opposed to nothing in the end. Think more about the outcome of what you want to do and the satisfaction you get from doing once it’s accomplished.
While surfing del.icio.us, I came across a very interesting link called the ‘Procrastination Flow Chart.’ It’s quite an amusing flowchart because it makes so much sense for a normal internet user. I can definitely say I work in a similar fashion haha. You all should definitely check it out!
So the point of this post? Don’t procrastinate, it will only get you so far.
Heck, I procrastinated with this post also! Post your comments!
Yes I know that this topic may not relate to some of the readers but I feel that this issue is rarely discussed or rather, it’s a “taboo” issue and should never be mentioned.
Well I say, screw you all. Everyone deserves a voice and a helping hand. If we cannot accept those with an illness then how can society progress? Ignorance is not the way to go. We must learn to face the truth and stare fear right in the eye and say, “Ima cut you bad.” Well, not exactly like that.. but hopefully you get my drift.
AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, not Ahh I’m Dead, Shit! I believe that even though there is no absolute cure yet, in the many years to come there will be more and more treatments. But for now, we must remember that AIDS is not to be feared but rather respected. Without understanding, many lives would be in misery and hopelessness.
AIDS is not only related to Africa and the gay community. Even normal everyday straight people in western civilization live with AIDS. This gives even more reason to be aware and gain more knowledge on this topic. The knowledge we gain could save many lives.
Be brave, be strong and most of all do not be ignorant on issues that you’ve been told not to talk about. Because that is just plain stupid. World AIDS Day, remember those who died from it and believe in what the future can bring.
Lastly, use condoms. It could save lives, including yours.
